Happy Halloweek! As every parent knows, Halloween week is overwhelming – we’ve got parties, last minute costume changes, shopping for treats, trying to organize where the treats are going, decorating, and staying sane on our lists.
For our family, the night before Halloween has always been busy. First, I have to make sure I have all the school and daycare treats made and sorted by classroom. Second, I have to make sure everything is laid out for Trick or Treating. By the time we get home from work/school and eat dinner tomorrow, we’ll be super limited on the getting ready time.
I know that tonight many parents will be doing exactly what we are – running around like crazy. Here are some ideas to keep the kids busy (but also festive!) tonight:
1. Paint Pumpkins, Gourds, or Even Rocks
Even if you’ve already done your big pumpkins, let your kids go crazy on some mini ones. Take all the random craft supplies you have in your house and lay them out. If you have no more pumpkins, let them make some Halloween rocks!
2. DIY New Halloween Decorations
Construction paper, scissors, glue, and markers – that’s all it takes to create some lovely new Halloween decorations. Don’t worry about exactly what they’re making, just let them have fun doing it. (These spiders are super easy and kid friendly)
3. Take a Glow Bath
If you don’t already have glowsticks at home, run to the dollar store! Fill the tub, turn off the lights, and toss in some glow sticks.
4. Go for a Walk
Devil’s Night is the perfect time to see Halloween decorations in full effect before the streets get busy tomorrow. This is also a good time to plan out your Trick or Treating route.
5. Do a Test Run
Try out any products (makeup, coloured hairspray, etc.) that you haven’t yet. This will help to avoid any let down or panic while getting ready tomorrow.
6. Have a Mini Halloween Party
Halloween night can be so busy that it’s easy to forget to enjoy the fact that you’re dressed up. Get the entire family in their costumes and throw on a Halloween playlist. Dance party in the living room!
7. Let the Kids Help With Early Setup
Have the kids help you get set up for tomorrow. Let them dump candy into bowls and lay their costumes out for tomorrow.
8. Watch A Halloween Movie
The easiest and most relaxing way to spend the evening! Casper is one of my favourites for Devil’s Night.
9. Make A Halloween Themed Dinner
Hit up Pinterest for some cute ideas! Spider dogs are our go-to.
10. Read Spooky Stories Under the Covers
A classic activity, but one of the best. Turn off the lights and crawl into bed with your little ones. Read them a book or story using a flashlight. They’ll love it!
Have a happy and safe Halloween!
