I have always found that Mother’s and Father’s Days are the “holidays” that tend to be forgotten about until the very last minute. With Mother’s Day being so close to Easter, it becomes a non-priority for many of us. Father’s day, on the other hand, lands very close to summer and gets lost in the mix of planning parties and wrapping up the school year.
You might remember that for Mother’s Day this year, I did a last minute gift guide. For Father’s Day, I wanted to do a different spin on figuring things out last minute. With that, here are 5 last minute ideas that won’t cost you a penny.
Check out these 5 last minute free father’s day gifts.
Let Him Sleep In
I know this doesn’t apply to all men (like my dad who wakes up at 5am no matter what), but it does apply to my husband. Letting him sleep in until whatever time he wants is just a small token of appreciation for everything he does, as well as all the times he lets me sleep in.
Involve the Kids In His Activities or Chores
Husband obsessed with video games? Have a family gaming session. Does he normally mow the lawn on Sundays? Have the kids help clean up the yard. Does your dad head to the coffee shop early every morning? Wake up early and go with him. It’s the little things that matter.
Prepare His Favourite Meal
Food is the key to everyone’s heart isn’t it? Make his favourite meal or dessert. This is 100% my favourite part of Mother’s Day, so I like to return the favour!
Don’t Text. CALL Him.
My dad has never been one for gifts. He pretty much has everything he wants, so buying for him has always been difficult. Because we don’t live in the same city (about 2.5 hours away), I don’t typically buy him anything. It sounds cheesy, but I think he truly appreciates the effort of an actual phone call on days like Father’s Day or his birthday.
Don’t Make Any Real Plans
Sometimes, the best plan is to have no plan. This is totally my stance on Mother’s day. I don’t want to go out to a busy restaurant, nor do I want cook or clean. Staying home and going with the flow can be so rewarding!
