For Holly’s third birthday, we chose to do a cute pink ballet theme. With that, came fun invitations, decorations, and of course, cupcakes. I knew right away that with my plans to make ballerina cupcakes, I couldn’t have them simply displayed. I decided to build a cake stand!
The decor for the party was pretty simple- lots of pink and white decorations. But, my favourite set-up was the food table. Remember this cake stand that I made for a friend’s babyshower a while back? Well, I saved it and decided to re-cover it for Holly’s birthday:
You can see the full instructions here, but all I used was:
- Cake boards (3 sizes)
- Ribbon
- Hot Glue
- Salt Containers (purchased from the Dollar Store!). For this, any tall round food container will work. You can also purchase paper mache boxes.
- Any coloured paper
Building the stand was super easy. All I did was hot glue the cake boards to the salt containers. My biggest tip? Make sure you use a level!
Ah, so very pink! Again, I used the same scrapbooking paper that I used for the invitations and the cupcake toppers to cover the inner beams, and bought some new pink ribbon to do the outer edges. I added the bows last minute, and I’m glad I did. Isn’t it amazing what a glue gun can do? The best of this stand is that the paper and ribbon can be peeled off and re-done in any colour!
After finishing my DIY ballerina cupcake toppers, I started frosting!
I used a Wilton drop flower tip to make a nice swirl, and then added an extra tall swirl in the centre (for where the ballerina would be placed). Next, I sprinkled on some pink Wilton sugar pearls and pressed in my ballerinas.
…and then I finally got to put them on my cake stand!
