One of the worst parts of adulting is that it seems like there is always a growing list of things to buy or fix. For us, home renovations and upgrades have always been a priority over buying new furniture or decor. After much hesitation, last week we finally bought a new couch and I couldn’t wait to share the before and after.
Check out our new couch reveal below!
We’ve needed a new couch for a long time, but something has always held me back from spending the money. About a month ago my son removed the cushions from our old couch and put his leg right through the fabric and to the wood. At that point, it was safe to say the time had come.
Our old couch was given to me by my grandparents when I moved out on my own for the first time at age 18. Since then, it’s been with Chris and I through 6 moves, 3 kids, and countless people crashing on it. It’s the softest, most unsupportive couch ever – but it’s so comfortable.
When we began the journey of looking for a replacement, I was shocked by how expensive it would be to find what we wanted. From the jump, we knew that we wanted something with a storage chaise and a sofa bed. We also knew we couldn’t stand another microfiber couch, so it needed to have a more durable fabric.
We searched high and low for a compact sofa bed sectional and narrowed it down to either JYSK MARIAGER or IKEA FRIHETEN . The prices for similar couches at big furniture stores were double if not more.
Our choice in the end?
The JYSK MARIAGER Sofa Bed
When we began to look between JYSK and IKEA, there were two things that made the decision easy for me – Price and reviews.
IKEA’s sofa bed sections (specifically the FRIHETEN) don’t have the greatest reviews. The price is reasonable, but I couldn’t get past the complaints.
JYSK’s sofa beds had completely opposite reviews, especially the MARIAGER. Every review of this couch was amazing, and when we went to see it in store it just happened to be on sale for $799 CAD. Such a great deal.
The MARIAGER sofa bed was very easy to put together and has been amazing so far. It does sit fairly low to the ground, which will take some getting used to, but is otherwise very comfortable The sofa bed pulls out easily and the chaise storage compartment fits much more than I expected.
My only complaint about the JYSK MARIAGER couch is the arm rests – they’re very square, have little padding, and are a bit too low. It was difficult to get comfortable sitting in the corners, but I quickly fixed the issue by adding two 24″ pillows. I may even add another set to really make it comfy!
If you’re curious about all of our living room decor, sources are below:
