We’re finally wrapping up back to school season! As moms, this season can be tough. All of the shopping, schedule changes, lunch packing, and homework can make it difficult to set aside time for yourself.
With the help of BeautySense.ca, I’m getting back to self care and focusing on my hair care journey.
Back in high school, I was the girl who straightened her hair every single day. It was the mid 2000’s and pin straight hair was the vibe, so I dragged my curls through a flat iron every morning. As I’ve aged, I’ve transitioned towards low maintenance hair care, meaning little heat or products are in my regular routine (see previous posts about my hair here and here).

My natural hair (above) is very coarse, thick, and has varying levels of wave/curl throughout. I don’t dye or treat it in any way, and I’ve always kept it long.
I’ve always known that good products could make an impact on my hair, so with the help of BeautySense, I did my research and picked some out.
The overall goal? Softer hair and less frizz.

I tested these products for 6 weeks, and without a doubt, have seen a massive change – Just look at the photos below! My hair is softer than ever, less frizzy, and so much easier to manage.

Here are my thoughts on all of the products I chose, as well as my BeautySense.ca review!
I’ll start with my BeautySense experience overall. I was shocked to discover how many amazing brands they carry, some of which I didn’t even know were available in Canada. The website is easy to navigate, the variety of products is amazing, and we LOVE that they are 100% Canadian-owned and operated (right in Montreal!). If you’ve never shopped there before, you’ll love their points program (Loyalty points worth 5% of your order), free samples with every order, and free Carbon-neutral shipping on all orders via Canada Post.
Now, on to the products!

1. Redkin All Soft Shampoo and Conditioner
There’s been a ton of chatter on social media about Redkin’s All Soft line. It’s been sitting on my Amazon wishlist forever, and it was the first thing I added to my BeautySense cart.
My daughter got to try these before I did, and she immediately swore her hair was softer. I was skeptical, but when I got to try them myself I found that my hair really, truly felt different. The products smell amazing, and although a lot of regular conditioners are on the thinner side, I found this one to be nice and thick. I haven’t noticed any big changes in frizz level when using them exclusively, but the coarse underside of my hair feels completely different when I do. I can’t stop touching my hair!

2. Amika The Kure Hair Mask
I have long hair and regularly use masks in place of regular conditioners, so I was on the hunt for a good option to target my breakage. With my usual hair mask being around $7 and this one being $56, I had high expectations.
My first impression? It’s exactly what a hair mask designed for thick/coarse hair should be – super thick, heavy, and nourishing. I decided to test it with my regular shampoo instead of the Redkin All Soft just to see if there was a noticeable difference. I noticed right away that there was no weighted residue feeling, despite how heavily conditioned my hair felt. Although it’s hard to tell if a product is actually strengthening or repairing, I do notice a reduction in frizz level upon air drying. I’m not 100% certain I would invest in this product again, but I could see it being extremely useful in the summer when my hair is taking a beating from pool water and sun.

3. Kerastase: Elixir Ultime L’Huile Originale
Ever since I saw Alix Earle using this oil on TikTok, I’ve been dying to try it. The higher price point had me wondering if this was different than other hair oil on the market, but I couldn’t resist finding out.
Without a doubt, this is the first item I’ll be repurchasing out of my BeautySense order. I’ve been using it on damp hair as it air dries and also on dry hair to tame fly-aways. It leaves my hair silky smooth and shiny, but the biggest win is that no matter how many times I re-apply before washing, my hair never looks oily at all. It smells amazing, is ultra light on the hair, and it’s even available in refillable packaging. I’m addicted to this stuff and as a frugal girlie, dare I say that it’s… worth the price? An investment I’m willing to make!

4. Nuxe Paris Huile Prodigieuse Multi-Usage Dry Oil – Original and Florale
I’m an oil girl through and through. I use several different oils for my skin, nails, scalp, etc. so I’m always on the look out for new ones to try. I had heard so many good things about this French brand but had no idea it was available in Canada until I spotted it on the BeautySense website.
Both scents, original and florale, are super light, clean, and feminine. The texture of the dry oil feels super nourishing, and I love applying it right out of the shower. I’ve integrated this oil into my daily routine, and quickly learned that a little goes a long way. I’ve been using it in my hair almost every day, and I swear I’ve gotten more compliments than I can count. The scent really lasts, and the dry oil texture is to die for. Another easy repurchase for me!
Overall, I’ve seen a huge change in my hair from taking a little time to get back to self care. Less frizz and so much softer!
Can you see the difference?
